Finishes Available: Beam Saw and Laser Cut

Every Acrylic sheet in our collection comes in a choice of the following two finishes:

Beam Saw Finish

Beam saw acrylic sheets are cut using a precision saw blade. It gives a clean, straight edge. This finish is a dependable, cost-effective option.

It is ideal for jobs where the edge is hidden or isn't the focus, such as shelving, backing panels and general workshop use.

Laser Cut Finish

The Laser Cut Acrylic Sheets are cut using a laser for a smooth, polished edge with a subtle shine. The laser-cut edges are closer to the look of glass. It's the better choice when the edge is on show, such as signage, display units and picture framing.

Which One Should You Choose?

If the edge will be visible, Laser Cut gives you a more refined finish. If it will be hidden or covered, Beam Saw does the job just as well, as the more cost-effective option.

Whichever you go for, every sheet is cut accurately and checked for quality before it reaches you.

How to Choose the Right Thickness

Choosing between 2mm, 3mm and 5mm comes down to one main question: how much strength does your project need? As a general rule, the thicker the sheet, the stronger and more rigid it is, but also heavier and slightly more expensive.

Here's a quick guide to help you pick the right one.

Choose 2mm if:

  • You need something light and easy to handle.
  • The sheet will be supported on all sides, such as in a frame or cabinet.
  • You're working on signage, light fittings or small display pieces.
  • Weight is a bigger concern than rigidity.

Choose 3mm if:

  • You want a good balance of strength and weight, our most popular option.
  • The sheet needs to hold its shape without heavy backing or support.
  • You're working on shelving, splashbacks or point-of-sale displays.
  • You're not sure which thickness to pick, and want a safe middle ground.

Choose 5mm if:

  • Your project needs real strength and rigidity.
  • The sheet will span a larger area without much support behind it.
  • You're working on protective screens, heavy-duty glazing or larger display units.
  • The sheet may take some knocks or everyday wear and tear.

If the sheet will be fully supported and needs to look good, 2mm is usually enough. On the other hand, if it needs to stand up on its own or take a bit of weight, 3mm is the safer choice.

When you're working on a project that needs maximum rigidity, 5mm acrylic is the better choice. It provides extra strength for large unsupported areas and applications where durability matters.

Popular Uses of Acrylic Sheets

Acrylic is one of the most versatile sheet materials available, which is why it turns up in so many different projects. Here's where it works best.

  • Signage: A smooth, durable surface that takes lettering, prints and graphics cleanly, indoors or out.
  • Shelving: Strong enough to hold everyday items while keeping a light, modern look that wood or glass can't match.
  • Splashbacks: Easy to wipe clean and resistant to moisture, making it a practical choice for kitchens and bathrooms.
  • Display and Retail Units: Clear, sturdy panels used for shop fittings, counters, stands and product displays.
  • Protective Screens: A tough, shatter-resistant barrier for counters, workstations and public spaces.
  • Glazing: A lighter, safer alternative to glass for windows, cabinets and doors, without losing clarity.
  • Light Fittings: Diffuses light well while staying lightweight, a common choice for lampshades and fittings.

Quality material, precise cutting, and a team that's actually there to help. That's what you can expect when you send a requirement to Grand Home Decore.
